In September 2010 the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) consulted the local community about our plans for Hyde Park.
'Hyde Park would be a spectacular location for the Games in 2012 and would provide a superb setting for the Olympic Triathlon and Marathon Swimming events.'
In order to stage the Olympic Triathlon and Marathon Swimming events in Hyde Park in 2012, we applied to Westminster City Council for planning permission which was granted on 3 February 2011. We still welcome your feedback and you can comment on our plans by:

LOCOG is working with The Royal Parks to minimise the impact to the
park and its visitors. Information will continue to be available as the countdown to the Games continues.
How will you ensure that you won’t damage the park?
We take our responsibilities very seriously. Our planning application will show the detailed work we have carried out on all aspects of our plans for Hyde Park. We will make sure that we return the park in the same condition in which we receive it.
We will use temporary pedestrian and vehicle ‘trackways’ in order to minimise impact. These will be similar to the walkways that are currently used for events in Hyde Park.
When will the park be closed, and how long will it be closed for?
The event area occupies approximately five per cent of the total area of the park, and will be located north of the Serpentine. Large crowds will be expected on the days when the events take place. We are currently working on the spectator management plan for other areas of the park on those days.
For safety and security reasons, we will need to restrict access to a small area of the park during the event set-up, competition and removal periods. This will be from early July 2012 until after the overlay is removed following the Games. Access to areas of Hyde Park around the north bank of the Serpentine will be restricted up to September 2012.
Why are you closing sections of the park before the Games?
We will be closing sections of the park during construction to ensure a safe environment for the public and our contractors. We will look to do this with minimum disruption to park users. We will maintain access routes through the park for as long as possible. Full details will be in the planning application.
