During the London 2012 Games, Millennium Stadium has the honour of hosting the very first event of the Olympic Games, with women's Football matches starting on 25 July. It will also host the men's bronze medal match.
How will the local area be affected?
- London 2012 is aiming for 100% of ticketed spectators to travel to competition venues by public transport, walk or cycle so local train services and bus routes will be busier than usual
- Some temporary parking and traffic restrictions will be in place to provide a safe environment around venues and keep traffic moving
- Even though the Millennium Stadium is used to holding large sporting events, the venue will be operating differently during the Games. Spectator entrances and routes may be in a different location than usual and spectators will need to follow the signs and instructions from event services staff

Local travel information
The London 2012 Games will attract large numbers of visitors to venues and their surrounding areas, which means some temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be needed.

On event days, the following roads will be closed to traffic from two hours before kick-off to one hour after the final whistle:
· Castle Road
· North Road (up to its junction with Boulevard De Nantes)
· Heol y Porth/ Westgate Street
· Wood Street
· High Street/ Heol Fawr/ / Heol Eglwys Fair
· St. Mary’s Street (up to its junction with Mill Lane)
In addition, Tudor Street and Penarth Road will be subject to restricted access from two hours before kick-off until one hour after the final whistle.
On event days some minor parking restrictions will be in place near to the Millennium Stadium. The pay and display facilities around Cathays Park will be suspended to enable coach parking in this area.
This will affect the following roads:
· Museum Avenue
· College Road
· King Edward VII Avenue
· City Hall Road
Further sections of these roads may have pay and display facilities suspended, dependant on demand.
