During the London 2012 Games, St James' Park will host a total of nine matches, including a quarter-final in both the men's and women's competitions.
How will the local area be affected?
- London 2012 is aiming for 100% of ticketed spectators to travel to competition venues by public transport, walk or cycle so train services, metro services and bus routes will be busier than usual.
- Spectators are encouraged to arrive at the ground at least 2 hours before the match starts so residents may notice spectators gathering at the venue earlier than at a usual football match at the ground.
- Football matches and other events at St. James’ Park usually take place at the weekend or in the evening. During the Olympic Games some matches will take place on weekdays and during the daytime.

Local travel information
The London 2012 Games will attract large numbers of visitors to venues and their surrounding areas, which means some temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be needed.
The temporary measures in Newcastle will include some road closures in the area immediately surrounding St. James’ Park on event days. Residents and businesses on temporarily closed roads will be able to apply for free access permits for use during match days.
The following roads will be affected by the traffic management measures - Strawberry Place at St James’ Street; Strawberry Lane at Strawberry Place; Pitt Street between Barrack Road and Wellington Street; Barrack Road between Stanhope Street and Gallowgate; Leazes Terrace at St James’ Street; Leazes Terrace at Terrace Place; St Andrew’s Street at Gallowgate.
