Changing lives
Almost 50% of children never finish primary school in Mozambique. International Inspiration is encouraging school attendance by championing the use of sport, physical education (PE) and play to develop skills and support aspirations.
'I will have influence and it will make me face the future with security. International Inspiration gives me opportunities to see the world differently.'
Cintia, Mozambique
International Inspiration has been active in Mozambique since mid-2009. The success of the programme is clear – the Mozambique Government has incorporated sport into the Child-Friendly Schools Strategy at primary schools in over 60% of provinces. It is another example of how International Inspiration is supporting and influencing national policies.
Reasons to celebrate
- More than 300,000 primary school-age children will be regularly engaged in organised PE and sport activities.
- The Ministry of Education has hailed International Inspiration as ‘a victory for the success of education’ as it ‘improves children’s academic performance and health'
- 210 young people have been trained as young sports leaders. The young leaders are now passing on their training to thousands of peers in schools and communities, ensuring that tens of thousands of children get the chance to take part in sports festivals.
