2012 in Yorkshire and Humber

There are lots of ways to get involved in the 2012 Games in your region - whether it's volunteering, taking up a new sport or getting your business ready to win a Games-related contract.

The 2012 Games are everyone's Games. So if you live in Yorkshire and Humber there are lots of ways to get involved.

There will be opportunities to volunteer during the Games - but why not start now in your local community? The Cultural Olympiad is reaching out across the whole region, bringing arts and other exciting events to your area. You could use the 2012 spirit now and make a video diary of your year or take up dance. Yorkshire businesses will be among many UK firms benefiting from business opportunities created by the Games.

  • Yorkshire and Humber has 49 facilities in the London London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camps Guide
  • The Serbian Olympic Committee has signed an MOU with Leeds and Sheffield for use of its international training camps over the next three years. 
  • Yorkshire and Humber planned 18 events for the launch of the Cultural Olympiad in 2008.
  • 23 London 2012 Handover flags were raised in Yorkshire and Humber to celebrate the handover of the Games from Beijing to London.
  • A new state-of-the-art boxing hall for the GB 2012 Boxing Squad has been opened in the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield. 
  • Sheffield will be hosting the Sports Personality of the Year Awards in December 2009. 
  • Hull and Humber will be hosting the start and finish of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in Sept 2009 and July 2010 respectively.
