Handover, Cultural Olympiad and Inspire Mark

The East of England was the first region to have all local authorities (54 in total) signed up to receive the Olympic Flag to celebrate the handover moment on 24th August 2008.
Over 60 events took place across the region to mark the handover moment with an estimated 43,000 attendees.
The East of England Live site is located in Norwich, Norfolk, however for the period of the handover big screens in Southend and Great Yarmouth, Norfolk were granted temporary live screen status.
The Paralympic Handover was also celebrated at 7 locations where schools came together from local areas to take part in Olympic/Paralympic themed activity.
The Cultural Olympiad Open Weekend was celebrated with over 60 events across the region and over 35,000 people in attendance.
