Lawyer, Olympic Delivery Authority
What is your role at the ODA?
I’m one of seven lawyers who provide legal advice and support to the ODA across the whole range of its activities and functions.
What is your background?
I previously worked as a locum at the Greater London Authority. That contract came to an end around the same time that the legal positions were advertised at the ODA and I was lucky enough to be offered a position at the ODA - so one role ran into the other quite nicely.
Describe a typical day?
Meetings and emails, more meetings and more emails. We deal with external firms and stakeholders regularly and things can move and change very quickly. It’s an enjoyable challenge keeping on top of everything that needs to be done.
What is your favourite aspect of the role?
My favourite aspect of the role is being part of the genuine excitement and enthusiasm that the Games generate. It’s a unique and rewarding position for a lawyer to be in. Each little piece of work adds in its own way to the delivery of the Games – it’s a real case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
What inspired you to join the 2012 team?
I’ve always loved sport and the Games represent to me the pinnacle of athletic excellence, hard work and dedication. In terms of sporting events they don’t come any bigger than the Games and it’s not every day that you get a chance to help to deliver something like that.
