The work experience programme is currently fully booked, and LOCOG is not taking on any new students until early 2009. But read on to find out about our scheme.
The London 2012 Organising Committee supports work experience as a way of helping young people.
The benefits
Work experience is a great way of preparing yourself for a career.
A placement with us will give you fantastic insights into working life. It will help you develop existing skills and gain new ones. It will broaden your experience. And it will almost certainly make you more attractive to future employers.
The work experience programme is great for us too. We get the benefit of young people with fresh minds, strong motivation and their own insights.
How it works
Each work experience placement lasts up to one week.
Placements are made within an individual department, but you’d be encouraged to try out lots of different roles within that team.
To ensure you get the most of the experience, we set out clear goals at the start.
If it all seems a bit daunting, we assign a buddy or mentor to help you out, showing you around and answering questions.
You would get feedback and support throughout your time with us. And we also request feedback from you at the end of the placement, so that we can make the work experience programme even better.
Who qualifies?
We are firmly committed to the principle of equal opportunity.
Our priority is to support school children in years 10 and above across the London boroughs, disadvantaged young people and people with disabilities.
Individuals must be aged 15 years or over to participate in the work experience programme.
Please note that LOCOG does not offer internships or a graduate scheme, but the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) does.

How to get a place
To ensure a good cross-section of candidates, we work with The Prince’s Trust, DisabledGo and Connexions to offer opportunities.
Most of our work experience placements are offered through these organisations, who help to identify suitable candidates and support them on their placements.
But we also have a small number of opportunities for speculative applications. To apply for a work experience placement, you should submit a CV and covering letter to
workexperience@london2012.com.
Candidates from both routes are invited for an interview to find out what they want to achieve from the placement.
One word of warning: lots of people want to try a work experience placement with us, and we unfortunately only have a limited number of places.
But if you are focused and ambitious, with a passion for the Games, we’d love to hear from you.
