Young Games Maker fast facts...

Who?

Team leaders like teachers, scout/guide leaders, youth group leaders, sports coaches and community leaders will bring together over 250 teams of 16-18 year olds (that’s more than 2,000 volunteers) to help make the London 2012 Games happen. They’ll be known as Young Games Makers.

When?

During the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Where?

Young Games Makers are needed in the Technology department and across a number of sports, from Aquatics and Athletics to 5-a-side Football and Volleyball.

How?

We want to make sure that Young Games Makers have a fantastic experience, and that they are well cared for throughout their volunteer journey. As a result, each team will need to have at least two team leaders, aged 18 by 1 January 2012.

Team leaders are responsible for their young volunteers during selection events, training and the Games.

Why?

When we won the bid to host the London 2012 Games, we made a promise to inspire more young people to choose sport. One of the ways we can do this is through volunteering.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young people to get involved in the greatest show on earth – while learning new skills, gaining experience and making new friends.
