Seb Coe
London 2012 Games Makers will be the best Olympic and Paralympic volunteers ever. How? By being inspirational, open, respectful, team-focused, distinctive, and having a 'can do' attitude.

Inspirational

London 2012 will be truly inspirational, and our passion and enthusiasm will be woven through every stage of the Games. The atmosphere surrounding the Games will be exhilarating, the pulse at the venues electrifying.

As the face of the Games, volunteers will inspire everyone they meet and engage them with the Olympic and Paralympic spirit.

Open

We are welcoming the world to London and the UK during the Games, and as ambassadors, Games Makers will be at the centre of every activity.

Volunteers' ability to be understanding, open and honest in everything they do will go a long way to providing a truly memorable experience for everyone.

Respectful

London 2012 will be everyone's Games, and people across the globe from all cultures and backgrounds will be watching or taking part. It will be a demanding and busy time and, as hosts, Games Makers will have to ensure everyone is included.

Volunteers will need to draw on many skills, dealing with a wide variety of questions and requests. Their ability to engage with patience and understanding will be a great asset.

Team-focused

Thousands of Games Makers will be doing their bit to ensure the Games run smoothly. Each role is vital, but it will be the amazing teamwork – the cooperation, support and reliability – of all Games Makers that will ensure the overall success of this fantastic event.

Distinctive

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be exceptional – from the athletes who will strive to be the best they can be, to the Games Makers who will go that extra mile to achieve their personal best.

We want everybody who touches the Games to feel proud – and that includes Games Makers.

'Can do' attitude

Games Makers will literally make the Games happen. The Games will be fast-paced and at times unpredictable, so a real ‘can do’ attitude is essential.

Volunteers will have to show they're adaptable enough to fulfil their role, and demonstrate that they've got what it takes to be a Games Maker. Sometimes their resilience alone will get them through!
