Stories of the World

Stories of the World

Through Stories of the World people of all backgrounds, from every part of the UK, will become 'curators' of the collections and objects held in museums, libraries and archives.
They'll have the chance to come up with new ways of representing material, then put on their own series of exhibitions.
Man holding a coin

From now until 2012, 14 regional partners involving over 50 museums, libraries and archives across the UK will make this happen.

At the heart of the vision is an exploration of stories of collections that have come from all over the world. Objects once bypassed for being reminders of our imperial past will now be examined and given more relevance to contemporary Britain.

The result? Exhibitions at a variety of venues, designed to appeal to new audiences everywhere. Themes will include fashion, seasons, faith, sex and immigration – all portrayed and described in original ways and with huge curatorial input from young people. A unifying theme for the exhibitions will be ‘welcoming the world’ for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Young people will also be involved in all areas of the exhibitions, from display, design and interpretation to marketing and promotion. Their involvement, creativity and innovation will reshape public perception of the word ‘exhibition’.
