Olympics themed photography at the German Gym–Inspired by the father of modern Gymnastics Fredrich Jahn. The German Gym was privately funded by the German émigré community in London. One of the first purpose built facilities for participatory sports in Britain it was used as a venue in 1866 for the first national ‘Olympian’ games organised by William Penny Brookes and the National Olympian Association. Brookes activities inspired Pierre de Coubertin and he is recognised today as the instigator of the revival of the Olympic Games. This photography exhibition will look at the Olympic history of athletes, characters and high profile officials across decades.
