A monochrome cityscape – the world before imagination – sets the scene. Young people will process and flood colour into the city. The Arch is decorated with elements the young people have designed, drummers and musicians play as the city is declared open and the Pearly Queen rises on an 18ft structure to spin and celebrate the launch of the Cultural Olympiad. Pupils of Bethnal Green Technical College, Kobi Nazrul Primary School and St Matthias Primary School take inspiration from the art and architecture of their local surroundings, the history of sportswear, hidden sports and the 2012 Olympic Games with this highly visual, physical and musical event.
