Inside the Velodrome
VeloPark
During the London 2012 Games the VeloPark will host Track Cycling, Paralympic Track Cycling and the BMX events.

During the Games

The Velodrome’s concrete lower tier will have 3,500 seats located around the track. A further 2,500 seats will be suspended in two upper tiers within the two curves of the venue’s roof. In between the lower concrete tiers and upper tiers there will be a glass wall, giving spectators a 360-degree view across the Olympic Park and allowing people outside the venue to see the sporting action taking place inside.

A BMX Circuit with 6,000 temporary seats will be built alongside the Velodrome.

The back-of-house area – including broadcast, catering and security facilities – will be shared with the Basketball Arena to make efficient use of space.

Getting to the VeloPark during the Games.

After the Games

The temporary seating for the BMX Circuit will be removed and the track reconfigured. A new mountain bike course and road cycle circuit will be added to create a VeloPark for the local community, sports clubs and elite athletes.

Outreach and sports development programmes will help ensure the new cycling ‘hub’ is suitable for all levels of ability. The facility will be owned, funded and run by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority.
