Seb returns to his home city Sheffield
On November 10, Lord Coe returned to his home city of Sheffield. As part of his day, we, Holly, 17, and Alex, 16 - pupils of Seb’s former school Tapton - spent time talking to the man himself about many topics of shared interest.
The main area of discussion was based around the work we have both been doing for the Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders in Sport, also known as SAYLS.
This is an academy designed to give the elite youth of Sheffield the opportunity to gain skills and experience through leading and assisting in numerous events from primary school level through to international.
During Seb’s visit, he awarded the academy the Inspire mark, allowing us to use the logo and each own our own Inspire mark pin badge.
For such a high powered man, we both found Seb a very approachable and down to earth individual who has given us the inspiration and motivation to continue volunteering and leading in future events in conjunction with the London 2012 Organising Committee.
He took great interest in our school life and wanted to know how London 2012 has been incorporated into our curriculum.
Seb finished the morning by inviting us to visit the Olympic Park to enable us to find out how we have been involved in the Olympic legacy.
