- A “BioBlitz” is a event that engages large numbers of people with biodiversity, inviting them to get directly involved in public engagement, the environment, and their local community. During 2010, International Year of Year of Biodiversity, 23 cities around the UK ran large scale BioBlitz events (over 24 or 30 hours) engaging thousands of visitors with biodiversity and local spaces. During the Discovering Places weekend, we will be running the first Mini-BioBlitz, a three hour event designed to give the people of Bristol an insight to a quirky site of interest (both scientific and heritage) in the heart of the middle of the city – Brandon Hill. What will happen? • Local scientists and naturalists will “race against the clock” to find as many species as possible with the help of visitors and volunteers • Dedicated walks and surveys will allow visitors to explore the park in more detail • The scientific results will be passed along to the park’s managers to aid in further conservation work and management of the park’s species • We will engage with the local press to promote the event and the Discovering Places weekend
