The festival is aimed at school pupils throughout Bristol, giving them the opportunity to try out a range of different sports and targets those that traditionally may not be able to represent their school through sport.

The 2009 event saw over 1,300 pupils, 18 schools, and almost 150 volunteers come together to make one fantastic event. The Festival was the first HEI led event in the UK to be awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark.

The Festival is supported by a team of volunteers from the University of Bristol, local clubs, Filton College and various national governing bodies of sport. It is hoped the 2010 event will be bigger and better than ever, with pupils being able to take part in a number of activities from street dance to rowing and table tennis to tag rugby.

Review:
Andrew Conibear, Inspire programmer South West:

In 2009 the RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy in Arts and Youth Sports) led Bristol Festival of School Sport and Culture saw over 1,300 pupils, 18 schools, and almost 150 volunteers come together to make one fantastic event. The Festival was the first HEI led event in the UK to be awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark.

The pupils that attended the event were those who wouldn't typically have the opportunity to represent their school in sport. They all enjoyed the chance to put on a Festival t-shirt, watch an opening ceremony dance routine, (Fairfield High and Cotham School) and meet sporting stars such as Olympic athlete, Jason Gardner and sailing Paralympian, Stephen Thomas. The event was completely inclusive and involved young people of all abilities participating.
