Yemem were first represented by an eight-man team in athletics and judo at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
They have taken part in every Olympic Games since. Eleven of their 22 Olympians to date have competed in athletics.
The 200m runner Hana Ali SALEH became the first Yemeni woman to compete in the Olympic Games, doing so at Sydney 2000.
Yemen sent a team of five to Beijing 2008 to compete in athletics, gymnastics, judo and swimming. They have yet to win a medal.
