Highlights

The American Virgin Islands were first represented by a six-man team at the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games.

They competed in athletics, sailing and weightlifting.

Swimmer Shelley CRAMER was the first female team member. She took part in the Montreal 1976 Games at the age of 14 and subsequently competed at the Los Angeles 1984 and Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.

At the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, Peter HOLMBERG took silver in the finn class. He is to date the only Olympic medallist from the Virgin Islands. His father Richard HOLMBERG had sailed at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.

At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, American Virgin Islands sent a team of seven, including sailor Thomas BARROWS. His younger brother Ian won sailing gold at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Virgin Islander boxer Ray SEALES claimed light welterweight silver at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games representing USA before embarking on a professional career. Paul HOFFMAN coxed the USA men's eight to a rowing silver.
