Highlights
At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, canoeist Benjamin BOUKPETI became the first Olympic medallist from Togo.
He took bronze in the men's kayak slalom. A seven-man team first represented Togo at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.
They competed in athletics, boxing and cycling. Sprinter Boevi LAWSON was the first Togolese to participate in three Olympic Games, doing so from 1988 to 1996.
Direma BANASSO was the first female competitor to represent Togo when she raced over 800m at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. She was 14 years and 298 days and remains her country's youngest Olympian.
