Highlights

Tajikistan's first medals came at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Yusup ABDUSALOMOV grabbed a silver medal in the men's freestyle middleweight wrestling and Rusul BOKIYEV took bronze in the men's lightweight judo.

A team of eight had first represented Tajikistan at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, although their athletes also competed as part of the Unified team at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.

Guylsara DABADAYEVA completed the Olympic marathon in three consecutive Olympic Games from 1996 to 2004.

From 1952 to 1988,Takjikistan's athletes competed under the colours of the Soviet Union.

Tajikistan-born modern pentathlete Anatoly STAROSTIN won individual gold at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games and also collected a gold in the team event.
