Highlights
Swimmer Anthony NESTY is Suriname's only Olympic champion to date. He won the 100m butterfly at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games and claimed a bronze in the same event in Barcelona in 1992.
NESTY carried the national flag in the Opening Ceremony at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Eddy MONSELS was Suriname's first Olympic representative. He competed in the 100m at the Mexico City 1968 Olympic Games.
Brothers Enrico and Giovanni LINSCHEER represented Suriname at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games in swimming.
Suriname were represented by women for the first time in Seoul in 1988. Letitia VRIESDE competed over 800m and 1500m. She was the first from Suriname to compete at five Olympic Games and made her final appearance in Athens in 2004 aged 39.
