Somalia was first represented by a three-man team at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.
So far they have competed only in athletics. Abdi BILE finished sixth in the men's 1500m at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.
In 2000, Safia Abukar HUSSAIN became Somalia's first female Olympian when she competed in the 400m.
Somalia sent a team of two to the Beijing Games. They are yet to win an Olympic medal.
