Highlights
Paraguay reached the final of the Olympic football tournament at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
They took the silver medal after a 1-0 defeat by Argentina. It remains Paraguay's only medal success to date, though they did reach the quarterfinals of the men's football at the 1992 Games.
Rodolfo DA PONTE had been the first Paraguayan to take part in the Games. He fenced in the men's foil at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City.
Tennis players Larissa SCHAERER and Rossana DE LOS RIOS were the first Paraguayan women to participate in the Olympic Games.
They played in the women's doubles at the 1992 Games in Barcelona. Paraguay sent a team of seven to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in five sports.
