Irving SALADINO is Panama's only Olympic champion to date. He won gold in the men's long jump at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Swimmer Adan GORDON jr was the first man to represent Panama at an Olympic Games. He competed in the 100m freestyle, and was their sole competitor at the Amsterdam 1928 Olympic Games. Panama's first Olympic medals came in the last Olympic Games to be held in London, in 1948.
Lloyd LA BEACH took bronze in the men's 100m and 200m. He was also a lone representative.
Weightlifter Carlos CHAVEZ was the lone competitor from Panama at the 1952 Games. In 1960, Panama sent a team of six to the Olympic Games in Rome. For the first time Panama included female competitors. Lorraine DUNN, Marcela DANIEL, Silvia HUNTE and Jean Holmes MITCHELL formed the 4x100m relay team.
Swimmer Eileen Marie COPARROPA competed in three Olympic Games from 1996 to 2004 and carried Panama's flag twice.
