Highlights

Nepal were first represented by four boxers and two marathon runners at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games.

They have yet to win an Olympic medal, although Tejbir BURA did win a gold medal in alpinism at the Paris 1924 Winter Olympic Games.

Marathon runner Baikuntha MANANDHAR competed in four successive Olympic Games from 1976. He completed the race on each occasion and finished 37th at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games.

Tika BOGATI completed the men's marathon at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games and at Atlanta 1996. Nepal's team of 16 in five sports at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games was their largest to date.

It was the first to include women. Dambar KUWAR competed in the men's 110m hurdles, the 400m hurdles and also finished the decathlon.

At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Nepal had a team of eight in six sports. Weightlifter Kamal ADHIKARI finished 22nd in the men's lightweight. Arjun Kumar BASNET 45th in the men's marathon.
