Highlights
Maldives were first represented at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games by a seven-man team in athletics.
They have competed only in athletics and swimming events to date. Ahmed SHAGEEF took part in the men's 400m at Seoul 1988, competed in the men's 100m and 200m at Barcelona 1992, and was a member of the 4x100m relay at Atlanta 1996.
He is the only athlete from the Maldives to have taken part in three Olympic Games.
Aminath ROUYA was only 13 when she swam the women's 50m freestyle at Athens 2004.
She returned to compete at the Beijing 2008 Games and is the only woman competitor from the Maldives to take part in more than one Olympic Games.
