Luxembourg

Highlights

Luxembourg were first represented at the Paris 1900 Olympic Games where Michel THEATO won the men's marathon.

For many years he was thought to have been French but research has shown he was born in Luxembourg.

In Antwerp in 1920, French-born weightlifter Joz ALZIN took silver representing Luxembourg in the men's heavyweight division.

Josy BARTHEL won 1500m gold at the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games and he remains their last medallist to date.

At these Games, Luxembourg caused a shock in the football, beating Great Britain 5-3.

At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Luxembourg entered a team of 13 across seven sports.
