Libya's first Olympic competitor was 400m hurdler Mohamed Souai ASSWAI KHALIFA. He formed a one-man team at the Mexico City 1968 Olympic Games.
Libya sent a team of 29, their biggest to date, to the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games. They took part in five sports.
Ali EL ZAIDI has competed in three Olympic Games, in 1996, 2004 and 2008. His best finish was 39th in the men's marathon at the Athens 2004 Games.
Weightlifter Mohamed Ali ESHTIWI finished 16th in the men's 77kg division, also in Athens. Libya sent a team of six to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
