A team of eight first represented Lebanon at the London 1948 Olympic Games. Their greatest success has come in the sports of wrestling and weightlifting.

On the same day at the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games, wrestlers Khalil TAHA took bronze in men's Greco-Roman welterweight and Zakaria CHIHAB took silver in the bantamweight division.

Hassan Ali BECHARA claimed bronze in the men's Greco-Roman super heavyweight at Moscow 1980.

Lebanon's other medal came in men's weightlifting when Mohamed Kheir TARABULSI took middleweight silver in Munich in 1972.
