Boxer Joseph MBOUROUKOUNDA was Gabon's first Olympic representative. He fought in the featherweight division at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games.
Judoka Melanie ENGOANG NGUEMA has competed in four Olympic Games at half heavyweight (1992–2004). She was also Gabon's flagbearer at three Olympic Games, including Beijing 2008.
At the Beijing Games, Gabon sent a team of four in athletics, judo and taekwondo.
They have yet to win an Olympic medal.
