Eritrea first appeared at the Olympic Games as a separate team at Sydney 2000.
Their 12 Olympians to date have all taken part in athletics. Distance runner Zersenay TADESSE has collected their only Olympic medal to date. He took 10,000m bronze at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. He also competed in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games alongside his brother Kidane.
Nebet HABTEMARIAM was the first woman to represent Eritrea and has competed at three Olympic Games. She ran the 5,000m at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and placed 47th in the marathon in Beijing.
Yonas KIFLE has also taken part in three Olympic Games. He finished 16th in the 10,000m at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and 36th in the marathon at Beijing 2008.
