Highlights

El Salvador first competed at the 1968 Olympic Games in neighbouring Mexico City.

The team of 60 in seven sports was the largest sent by the country. Swimmer Salvador VILANOVA was only 15 and also the flagbearer for his nation.

The El Salvador football team drew 1-1 with Ghana in their final group match. El Salvador's competitors at the Olympic Games have mostly been in athletics and swimming.

Boxer Henry Donald MARTINEZ won two bouts to finish equal ninth in the light-flyweight division at the Seoul 1988 Games.

At Beijing 2008, Eva DIMAS competed in the women's weighlifting for the third successive Olympic Games. Her uncle Valerio competed in the same sport for El Salvador in Mexico 1968.
