Highlights
The 10,000m runner Andre BICABA became Burkina Faso's first Olympian when he competed at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games when the country was still known as Upper Volta.
Sprinter Mariama OUIMINGA was their first female representative when she raced in the 100m and 200m at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games. Oliver SANOU competed in high jump at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and in triple jump at Athens 2004.
His brother, Idrissa SAMOU, also competed in Sydney, Athens and Beijing in the men's 100m.
They have had competitors in athletics, boxing, fencing, judo and swimming but have yet to win an Olympic medal.
