Highlights
Botswana were first represented at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow by a seven-man team in athletics.
Of their 49 Olympians to date, 38 have been from the sport of athletics. Joseph RAMOTSHABI was the first Botswanan to take part in three Olympic Games. He competed in the 400m at Moscow 1980; the 400m and 800m at Los Angeles 1984; and was part of the 4x400m team at Seoul 1988.
At the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Glody DUBE reached the 800m final, finishing seventh.
At the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the Botswanan team reached the men's 4x400m final and placed eighth.
Amantle MONTSHO became Botswana's first female representative at the Olympic Games when she competed in the 400m at Athens 2004.
At the Bejing 2008 Games she reached the final and finished eighth. Gable GARENAMOTSE was ninth in the the men's long jump. Swimmer Samantha PAXINOS became the first woman to carry Botswana's flag when she did so in 2008.
Botswana have yet to win an Olympic medal.
