Highlights

Benin competed under the name of Dahomey at their first Olympic Games in 1972.

Their team comprised two boxers and a 400m runner. From 1976 they have taken part as Benin.

At the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games, Benin sent 16 competitors, their largest team to date.

Edwige BANCOLE became their first female Olympian when she competed in the 100m in Moscow.

Sprinter Pascal DANGBO competed in the men's 100m at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games and competed also in Atlanta in 1996 and in Sydney in 2000.

It was a feat emulated over the same period by Laure KUETEY who took part in the women's 100m and 200m. Benin sent a team of five to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Sprinter Fabien FERAEZ carried Benin's flag for the second consecutive Games and competed in the women's 200m at both Olympic Games. Benin have yet to win an Olympic medal.
