Air rifle shooter Shahana PARVEEN was their first female competitor when she competed at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
Swimmer Doli AKHTAR was the youngest Bangladeshi Olympian when she competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games at the age of 14 years, 246 days.
She became the first woman to take part in three successive Olympic Games for Bangladesh when she competed in the 50m freestyle in Beijing.
So far Bangladeshis have taken part only in athletics, shooting and swimming and are yet to win an Olympic medal.
