Highlights

Bahrain's first sent a 10-man Olympic team to the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games. They competed in athletics, shooting, modern pentathlon and swimming.

At the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, the three members of their modern pentathlon team also took part in fencing. Fatima Hamid GERASHI became the first female competitor from Bahrain when she took part in the 50m freestyle at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

At 12 years, 181 days, she was the youngest participant. Maryam Yusuf JAMAL finished fifth in the women's 1500m at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the best performance yet by an athlete representing Bahrain. (She was born in Ethiopia).

Morocco-born Rashid RAMZI competed for Bahrain at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. He placed first in the 1500m in Beijing, but was subsequently stripped of his gold medal for doping offences. Bahrain have yet to win an Olympic medal.
