American Samoa first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1988, competing in weightlifting, boxing and athletics.
Boxer Maselino MASOE was the first athlete from his country to compete at three consecutive Olympic Games and carried his country's flag at the Atlanta 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.
His younger brother, Mika, boxed alongside him in 1988 and 1992.
American Samoa have been present at every Olympic Games since and also took part in the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer.
Lisa MISIPEKA, the first woman to compete for American Samoa, took part in three successive Olympic Games. A shot putter in 1996, she threw the hammer at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. She carried her country's flag at the Opening Ceremony in Athens.
At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, American Samoa had four competitors, in athletics, swimming and judo.
They have yet to win a medal.
