Highlights
Rohullah NIKPAI's bronze in the men's taekwondo flyweight class at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was Afghanistan's first Olympic medal.
The country first competed at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, contesting the athletics and hockey.
In 1948 when the Olympic Games were last held in London, Afghanistan athletes were among the first in action. They lost to Luxembourg in a preliminary football match played before the Opening Ceremony.
Female Afghan athletes competed for the first time at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Robina MUQIM YAAR took part in athletics (100m) and Friba RAZAYEE in judo (middleweight).
