We want London 2012 to be an inspirational and memorable Olympic and Paralympic Games where everyone is invited and can get involved with the celebrations – regardless of age, race, disability, sexuality, gender, gender identity or belief.
Right from the very beginning of our bid in 2003, London 2012 has been about what can be achieved through the inspiration and power of sport, using it as a catalyst for positive change and inspiration.
The founder of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin, was inspired in the 1880s by Thomas Arnold at Rugby School and the Much Wenlock Games in Shropshire, founded by Dr William Penny Brookes.
