The following article appears in today's edition of The Sun newspaper:
Our athletes are already in training our businesses should be too
Says Lord Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee
In a little under five months, I will be in Beijing, watching our athletes going for gold in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. As someone who has competed in two Olympic Games, I know only too well the hard work that goes before that - and, believe me, it starts some years before the Games themselves.
So as we approach Beijing, the training and preparations that shape the daily routines of an athlete are brought into sharper focus. The goals of a lifetime that you work years to achieve are suddenly months and weeks away from fulfilment.
And the need to tailor your preparations to peak at just the right time is absolutely vital. When the Beijing Games come to a close, all eyes will then turn to London.
The Organising Committee - which I chair - is already working in minute detail towards staging a fantastic Games and I'm sure the incentive of competing at London 2012 will also give an added boost to the preparations of British athletes. The same should go for British business.

At the end of October, demolition of the tallest building on the Olympic Park site took place.
The 12-storey building, which used to be University of East London student accommodation, has been derelict for a number of years.
Removing the building will clear the area that will link the Olympic Village and Velodrome during the Games.
The area is also at the heart of plans after the Games when community facilities such as new homes, schools and sporting venues will all be close by.

Progress on the site of the Olympic Stadium accelerated this week with nearly half the buildings now demolished, temporary bridges being installed and a programme of work beginning to remove thousands of tonnes of soil to create the correct ground levels.
Demolition started in July with 16 of the existing buildings already knocked down and the rest due to be demolished by the end of the year. You can watch the progress in our time-lapse video.

At the recent adidas sponsorship launch, 20 twelve-year-olds were invited to take part. As part of the day they each wrote a summary of their experiences - the best summary to be published on this website.
So here's our winner: a poem by Adebisi Alakan, Hackney Free & Parochial C of E Secondary School...
Last week I was so privileged
We tripped our way to Millennium Bridge
To meet a load of Olympic trainers
And grab a free pair of Adidas trainers.
They’re the ones funding the Olympic Games
And they introduced us to sports stars of fame.
We sprinted our way to the finish line
Our feet were light and our hearts were fine.
Allyson Felix and Tyson Gay –
They made it into a happy day,
We met the chairman, Sebastian Coe,
And our feet started pounding when they shouted “GO!”
Adidas are popular so they drew in the crowds,
Deservedly for 100 million pounds…
That’s the amount they’re sponsoring
Those ancient Games with those five great rings!
Thank you Adidas for the best day ever…
It’s a memory that forever I’ll treasure…
Good luck Britain in the Olympic Games
Put all the rest of the Universe to shame!!

Britain’s
Beth Tweddle is the talk of the online gymnastics community. She gave the sport’s home profile yet another boost at the weekend, by adding the prestigious
World Cup title to the World Championship crown she won in October.
But, she told the BBC in an
audio interview posted on Tuesday, performing at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show was the greater challenge.
TV presenter Gabby Logan – a former Commonwealth rhythmic gymnast – reflected on the impact of this prime-time appearance in her
column for The Times Online.
Bloggers approved of her positive take on elite gymnastics training for youngsters.
