This week saw the launch of Open Weekend, a series of exciting sporting, arts and cultural challenges taking place across the UK from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 July 2010.


Beth Tweddle taking part in Bhangra dancing 

Gymnast Beth Tweddle took part in an Indian dance challenge as she helped launch the West Midlands listings for Open Weekend.

Gymnast Louis Smith with a chinese dragon on a nations and regions visit 

Fellow gymnast Louis Smith visited the East of England where he tried out a spot of Chinese lion dancing with the Outdoor Festival of Chinese Culture.

Olympics Hugh Robertson, T V gardner Charlie Dimmock and ODA Chairman John Armitt with children from the construction crew planting the first wetland plants today 

Back at the Olympic Park, Minister for Sport and Olympics Hugh Robertson, TV gardener Charlie Dimmock and ODA Chairman John Armitt helped children from the Construction Crew to plant the first of the 300,000 wetland plants that will help make up the estimated 250 acres of parklands.
