Dawn, London 2012 Trailblazer volunteer, 9 July 2010
Given my background in swimming and my passion for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, I very much want to be part of the Games when they come to London in 2012.
I was recently accepted on to a volunteer training programme run by British Swimming that will hopefully help me become a Games-time volunteer for Aquatics events at London 2012. The programme has been awarded the London 2012 Inspire mark – and has certainly inspired me.

1 Comments on this postYesterday I joined Sir Chris Hoy and Jonathan Edwards at Eltham Green Specialist Sports College to see Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week in action. I got to see hundreds of primary and secondary school children having loads of fun taking part in different sports.

It's time to make the long trek home from the Glastonbury Festival where the Inspire project Village Screen returned for its second year.
Audiences were treated to interactive games, films from across the UK, Inspire-project performances (have you ever worked out to Shakespearian poetry?), festival highlights, open mic sessions, news bulletins, video blogs and more. Wenlock and Mandeville also appeared on screen, helping bring the festival to life.

Gymnast Beth Tweddle took part in an Indian dance challenge as she helped launch the West Midlands listings for Open Weekend.

There are numerous fantastic things about being able to represent your country at sport: for example, the hard-fought races, the bags of kit and intimate knowledge of beers rich and varied across the globe (post competition of course!). But these aside, the greatest privilege and delight is to be part of a team of like-minded, phenomenally motivated people.

The Wimbledon defending champions Roger Federer and Serena Williams are obviously focusing on the two weeks ahead at the moment.
But at their press conference yesterday we asked them to look ahead a little, and tell us what they think about Wimbledon as the Olympic Tennis venue at London 2012... and whether they’re intending to be fighting for gold.

Chris Mohr, Team GB Handball, 18 June 2010
I have pretty much played handball all my life. In recent years, I have played in both Denmark and Germany, including for Essen in the German Bundesliga – the best league in the world.
But it was great to be selected for the Team GB squad that played in the Euro 2012 qualifiers at Crystal Palace. I worked hard for months and was over the moon when the team was announced and my name was on the list.

Given the sporting nature of the region, it is not surprising to see the local community reaping the benefits of the Olympic and Paralympic Games – in terms of business, sport and culture.

Reach for your atlas – preferably a big one – and look in the index for Sochi. You'll find it on one of the less well-thumbed pages, in the south west of Russia on the Black Sea coast, near the border with Georgia.
In four years' time this city will host the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games – the next games after London 2012 – and by then it will be easier to reach. Right now the journey here requires some determination. Most of us took 18 hours or more to get here!

0 Comments on this postI grew up in Kenya and started playing hockey when I was nine. I moved to England when I was 12 and was lucky enough to be at a school with great sports facilities. I enjoyed just playing sport - any sport.
But eventually I had to choose between athletics and team sport, and I chose the team. It's so nice to experience something with fantastic, like-minded people, who have a genuine common interest: hockey.

This week LOCOG chair, Seb Coe, visited the UK Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010. Seb is pictured with Chinese Paralympians in front of the centrepiece of the pavilion, a six-storey-high object made from some 60,000 transparent rods.
