I've had a day to step back and reflect on what was, again, a fabulous London Marathon.

I never fail to be inspired by the effort and energy everyone puts in to making it a success. There's a special buzz that starts early morning and lasts right through the day: in true British fashion, this year even rain couldn't dampen spirits.

In a slight break from the norm, this week's 'photos of the week' blog features three inspirational men – rather than places or things - connected with London 2012, the Games more generally and everything we're aiming to achieve.

Coming straight from education into such a dynamic, exciting job is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for which I am very grateful to have. I can undoubtedly say that this is definitely the place to be for any and every sporting enthusiast! I'm really looking forward to developing my Olympic and Paralympic knowledge, which I hope will benefit me in the future.

I was proud to be able to show a group of British Cycling coaches and support staff around the Velodrome yesterday, led by Dave Brailsford. The group also had a tour of the Olympic Park and had an update on progress.

David Morris, a LOCOG staff member, friend and colleague in the Diversity & Inclusion team passed away at the weekend. We are all still shocked and saddened by his death. Dave was an outstanding individual in every sense.

He was a wonderful team member and raised us all up.

He was brilliant and challenging. Can we do better? Can we go further? Can we truly push past our personal best?

This photo was taken earlier this week when delegates from 17 National Olympic Committees around the world visited London 2012 headquarters and the Olympic Park for an update about plans for the Games. Here you can see the group gathered in front of the Olympic Stadium with its lighting towers clearly visible.

We tragically lost around 30-35 of Haiti's top athletes and coaches from the earthquakes. More are missing.

We're now going through a very long, difficult process of rebuilding. We've had a lot of support from the Americas and USA, and also the IOC to help us rebuild.

But we hope to bring between 12-18 athletes to compete at London 2012 - mainly in track and field, judo, taekwondo and boxing.

Last year the first Newham Classic 10K made history by hosting a run in one of the five London Host Boroughs (Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Greenwich). The event was a great success and we had over 1,200 runners taking part. The winner of the Newham Classic 10K in 2009 was from Germany who completed the run in 30 minutes and 14 seconds!

One of the best things to come out of the 2012 Games for young people is the massive number of opportunities to get involved in projects around sport, enterprise, media and leadership, to name a few.

I was really proud to give my support to the nomination of ten fantastic young people from Newham, who have been selected for the London 2012 Young Leaders Programme.

The Aquatics Centre is a sight to behold in this image, with the pools full of 10 million litres of water to check that they are water tight. As the project progresses it will take 180,000 tiles to seal and line the pools.

The latest London 2012 Sustainability Conference began with an ODA bus tour around the Olympic Park site. Every time I see the Park I’m amazed at the amount of work happening in such a constrained space, and how quickly the Park is taking shape. The London 2012 webcams are worth a look to see the progress being made on the venues and the Olympic Village.

This week Ed Clancy, world champion and gold medal-winning Team GB cyclist, gave us the thumbs up when he visited the Velodrome and saw that the double-curved roof had been lifted into place. This photo shows Ed in the centre of the Velodrome.
