At the heart of London's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games was the promise to 'transform the heart of the East End' and to 'inspire a generation of young people' - to create a legacy that would renew, regenerate and inspire. That promise which secured the capital’s bid, rings true just as much now as it did back in 2005.

One of the things we keep emphasising here at London 2012 is that we don't want the Games to just make people interested in sport for six or so weeks in 2012. We're really intent on making sure they inspire people to get up and get active, and more importantly are given the opportunity to do so. So I was inevitably delighted by the news that the British Equestrian Federation have now committed £750,000 to their Olympic legacy project for the London 2012 Games, called ‘Hoof’, to making horse-riding more accessible to all Londoners.

My usual Monday morning commute starts at slightly too early for comfort 5.30am and involves a 15 mile cycle ride from deepest East Sussex into Kent, a train ride to London Bridge station and a few stops on the Jubilee line to our office in Canary Wharf.

One of the best parts of being involved in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is that I get to see for myself how hosting the London Games is already changing people’s lives.
In the week before the ‘1,000 days to go’ milestone I was in Jordan for the launch of International Inspiration in that country. I had been asked to go and see what the London 2012 Games are doing for children there.

How far we have come since that split-second of hesitation before the word ‘London’ came from the mouth of the IOC president in Singapore over four years ago. As I watched the excitement spread around me as I sat in City Hall on that fateful day in July 2005, I immediately understood that by being given the Olympic and Paralympic torches, we had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve our city for disabled and deaf people.

Talk about coincidences…not only did yesterday mark 1,000 days to go until the Paralympic Games, it was also the day the world celebrates International Day of People with Disability.
To top it all off, it also happened to be the day that we revealed the Paralympic Pictogram designs and the day we launch the corresponding pin badges…ok so these last two may have been carefully planned!

Today’s an exciting day, 3 December. We’re celebrating two events: 1,000 days to go to the Paralympics and also the global International Day for Disabled People, the day which reminds us each year to promote disabled peoples’ participation in social life.
It’s a day of celebration for our teams. We have been focused on promoting good practice at work for disabled people. This is something we can do with the employers working on the Olympic Park - including disabled people in job opportunities is a priority for us.
