The Victorians would pour over a well thumbed edition of Baedeker before embarking on a Grand Tour. By comparison the Network Rail online timetable lacks a certain romance, but I'm checking on connection times at Crewe with just as much anticipation.
For last year's Open Weekend I tested the UK's public transport network to (and sometimes beyond) its limit. I clocked up almost one thousand miles to take in as many of the 600 events as I could – to see new street festivals, innovative outdoor art, multi-media shows and young film-makers meeting great movie talents.

This is a great idea, looking around the country to see what talent there is in our great nation. As an artist myself I see lots of wasted talent especially here in the Midlands where we have special institutions for creative businesses. I would like to make a point regarding transport,. In London there is a great transport service that feeds the city although I see problems with the extra pressure that the Oylmpics may create. I also see more issues with areas such as Birmingham (as Villa Park maybe used for some of the events), as the infrastructure here for a solid transport system is creaking at best regardless of the extra strain created by the Olympics. I love the fact that the UK has this event and firmly believe we can pull off a great event, although areas such as transport will be an issue. I also hope to see new jobs being created in our towns and cities that can not just contributeto this great event but can also create jobs in local areas as, as we all know the coutry needs this injection at the moment.
Many thanks for listening to my waffle, keep blogging
