My mummy is in a wheelchair so I was excited to hear that Disability Sports NI was coming into our school to show the children how successful people with disabilities can be. All the children got to hear first about the winners in the recent Paralympics.

Later in the day, my classmates and I were given a chance to try out some sport activities. We had a go at an activity blindfolded, kurling and a couple of wheelchair sports. When I was doing the wheelchair sports I found out how hard they were! Out of the sports that I did, Wheelchair Basketball was the hardest. If you think about it your arms are bound to hurt sooooo much :( . Plus shooting the ball into the net would be a lot harder because you are lower down.

My favourite game was when you had to see how many pushes on a wheelchair you could do in 30 seconds. My best score was 62! When we were at W5 (W5 means who, what, where, when and why) I got David Healy’s signature on a bag for my best friend.

Emma-Rose is from Belfast. She took part in the official launch of the Northern Ireland Primary Schools '5 Star Disability Sports Challenge' - an education and awareness project awarded the London 2012 Inspire mark. The launch took place at W5 Belfast with Sports Minister Gregory Campbell and international footballer David Healy.
