Take a visit to Stratford and you’ll likely be blown away by the huge amount of work going on there. Across the Olympic Park and the shopping centre development behind Stratford Regional Station, new structures seem to go up overnight.

What you might not see so easily is the work going on inside the station to get it ready for the London 2012 Games. 

Take a look at some of the work we are doing to boost capacity and accessibility at the station.

Second entrance



Around 2,000 tonnes of earth had to be excavated before construction started on the new entrance, which you can see being built outside of the existing station where the Meridian Square taxi rank used to be. The new entrance will provide more direct access for passengers travelling on Central Line and DLR services towards London, as these passengers will no longer have to pass through the subways to use these services.

New Central Line platform



You can see the new westbound Central Line platform taking shape to the left of the Tube. The new platform will mean that passengers access the westbound Central Line services from both sides of the carriage, making getting on and off much quicker.

Better access



Here you can see work on one of the nine new lifts that is nearly complete. The new lifts will boost accessibility at the station and make it easier for everyone to use, including disabled people, those carrying luggage, parents with small children or buggies, and older people.

Canopy coverage



A new canopy takes shape over passengers waiting on platform 6/8, which has been de-cluttered and widened by up to 3.2m.

New lifts and stairs



Behind the hoardings on platform 3/5. You can see how workers, including this one who is using cement to build new lifts and stairs into the western subway, have to get the job done in a very small space.

Our work at Stratford Regional Station is due to be finished by the end of 2010, providing great benefits to passengers long before the 2012 Games.
