Most of the 52 pylons are not on the Olympic Park site. They are also an intrinsic part of the familiar landscape, many are important gathering sites for starlings, and others provide vital protected wildlife areas around their bases. For many of us their disappearance will be yet another example of the lack of imagination and disrespect for the heritage of the area consistently demonstrated by the Olympic planners.I'd rather have stately pylons any day than the ugly buildings that will replace them and block the view.

Can't agree with DR Brookes. Undergrouding these cables opens up all sorts of possibilites for the area. I'd call it Legacy in advance."With a ladder and some glasses, you could see to Hackney Marshesif it wasn't for theStadiumsin between"
